Today I would like you all to welcome editor Jean Rabe, who is involved in an important project that needs YOUR help:
I’m not sure who’s idea it was … Danielle Ackley-Mcphail, Gail Z. Martin … didn’t matter, doesn’t matter. It was a marvelous, wonderful, amazing, most-excellent idea, and I immediately agreed to edit it and the incredible folks at Silence in the Library agreed to publish it: a benefit anthology for CJ Henderson. If you aren’t familiar with CJ’s numerous works, you should be. Visit his website at cjhenderson.com for a list of his titles, but more, visit it to learn about him.
My favorite editor Brian Thomsen introduced me to CJ. I was editing a DAW books anthology called Furry Fantastic, and Brian said CJ had a great dog story that would be perfect. It was, and it is in that anthology. It is also the tale … tail? … I selected to bookend Dance Like a Monkey, the benefit anthology for CJ. The story is called “All the Virtues of Man.” CJ himself has many virtues. He’s funny, a lightning-quick wit, a terrific story-weaver in whatever genre he tackles, has a knack for making people smile and think …
… and, unfortunately, he’s suffering from Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, a nasty nasty cancer that is keeping him from working and driving up his medical bill. Hence, Dance Like a Monkey. You’ll have to check out the Indiegogo campaign to understand the “monkey” part of it. http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/monkeying-around-for-a-good-cause. And because we couldn’t do this on Kickstarter (their rules about charity projects), it won’t be quite so visible. So, please, pass this information on to your friends. Help us help CJ Henderson.
We’re hoping everyone who sees this blog and the numerous Facebook posts will sign on. It is a great cause. And you’ll be getting a great deal back for your contribution. You see, the SF and fantasy community of writers has turned out to offer stories in support of “one of their own.” The more money raised, the more stories that will fill the collection; I guess it’s that dangling carrot approach. It’s a seriously tasty carrot.
I am blessed to know a lot of writers in the community, so I e-mailed and called them and asked them to hop on board … they all said yes. Other writers I’d never met before asked if they could be part of this. In fact, a couple of the authors said this was a great notion, and “what if it was me?” and nudged even more writers our way.
At the moment, more than 180,000 words have been gathered, and we know that will climb. Award-winning fantasy artist Alan M. Clark has donated the cover for the first volume. Other talented artists are involved.
